Application Grounds
- Standard naturalization — after 5 years of residence in France
- Shortened procedure — after studying at a French higher education institution
- By marriage — with French citizen for at least 4 years

Language Requirements — B2 Level
Citizenship application requires proof of French at B2 level (not B1!). The requirement is met if:
- Valid B2 or higher language certificate provided
- French university diploma recognized as B2 equivalent
Civic Exam — from January 1, 2026
New requirement: Mandatory exam (examen civique) in QCM format — 40 questions in French about Republic values, history, rights and duties. Minimum 32 correct answers (80%) required.

During the interview (entretien d'assimilation), administration checks:
