Application Grounds

  • Standard naturalization — after 5 years of residence in France
  • Shortened procedure — after studying at a French higher education institution
  • By marriage — with French citizen for at least 4 years
  • Other grounds — provided by French legislation

Language Requirements — B2 Level

Citizenship application requires proof of French at B2 level (not B1!). The requirement is met if:

  • Valid B2 or higher language certificate provided
  • French university diploma recognized as B2 equivalent

Civic Exam — from January 1, 2026

Integration Interview

During the interview (entretien d'assimilation), administration checks:

  • Understanding of Republic values and principles
  • Knowledge of key French history stages
  • Understanding of citizen rights and duties
  • Financial stability and legal income
  • Participation in social and economic life
